CVC Capital Partners, a notable private equity buyout firm, has reached an agreement to acquire Sunday Natural, a prominent vitamin and supplement manufacturer. This acquisition marks a significant addition to CVC's extensive investment portfolio in Germany.

Transaction Snapshot

  • Deal Value: Approximately €800 million
  • Deal Type: Acquisition
  • Investors: CVC Capital Partners

Sunday Natural, a Berlin-based company established in 2013, is renowned for its extensive range of over 1,000 nutrition and health products. These include protein shakes, natural sweeteners, teas, and essential oils. The company has successfully cultivated a significant customer base, selling to over 1 million customers through its online platform, Sunday.de. In 2022, Sunday Natural reported generating approximately €100 million in revenue.

CVC Capital Partners expressed excitement about this venture, acknowledging Sunday Natural's operation in a rapidly growing market. This market is seen as particularly responsive to consumer megatrends focusing on health and self-care, as highlighted by Can Toygar, a senior managing director at CVC.

The acquisition process saw interest from other potential bidders, including Bridgepoint Group and Partners Group, as reported by Bloomberg News last year. However, CVC emerged as the successful acquirer in this competitive environment.

CVC's investment portfolio in Germany is extensive, encompassing a diverse range of companies. These include Douglas, a perfume retailer; DKV Mobility, a fleet services firm; Quality Group, a producer of protein powders and sports supplements; and a previous investment in Messer Industries GmbH, an industrial gas firm.

The involvement of Sunday Natural's founder, Jörg Schweikart, in the company's ongoing strategic development, is a notable aspect of this acquisition, indicating a continued commitment to the brand's vision and growth under the new ownership.
